About Me

Hello! I am a clinical social worker employed in the addiction field by night, and a bicycle enthusiast by day, who is training and fundraising for a multi-state bike ride (which I am affectionately calling Liz’s Bike to Build at NBSS Ride). I am doing a solo bicycle ride from Quincy, MA to New York City in an effort to raise money to attend North Bennet Street School in the fall of 2014. I will then give 20% of all of my donations to South Shore Habitat for Humanity. This blog will follow my many adventures starting with my compulsive training and weight lifting routines as well as my shameless fundraising/begging , and will continue through the summer into my first and second years in the Preservation Carpentry Program.

Although I may be pedaling alone and I am the sole author of these blog posts, I AM IN NO WAY DOING THIS BY MYSELF. I would never have gotten this far with this blog without my backbone Justine. She has been my personal assistant, adviser, blog help desk representative, “bestie,” and main support through this entire process. I probably would not have even applied to NBSS if it were not for her unconditional love and support. I also am very grateful to my friend Sharon for her marketing advice, contacts, and inspiration. Thank you to all my donors who have contributed to this fund…my heart is full of appreciation for all of you. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my canine best friend and training partner, Hope (above), who is always right by my side in good times and bad. Of course, I cannot forget the one and only “Jones,” my 13 year old  blind, deaf, diabetic jack russell who has a heart murmur, is insulin dependent and has chronic skin allergies…and could care less about any of these conditions and will probably out live all of us….he is one tough little bugger. Lastly, I want to thank my mother, who has been my best friend and #1 role model for forty years. She has shown me that I can do anything I set my mind to if I am willing to work hard enough,  walk through my fears, and persevere. THANK YOU ALL!

  1. Liz:

Just read your article in the Globe. I would be interested in speaking to you about your desire to work for a preservation company. We are a 25 yr old South Shore business specializing in (but not limited to) historic preservation and renovations. Please check out our website http://www.buttonwoodrenovations.com and contact me if this sounds interesting to you.

    Good luck on the ride!
